“The King’s Goodbye” by Ryan Aitmessaoud
Hear ye hear ye the king said
Laying in his worn down bed
While he was taking his meds
The king was pale and pure red
looking at the prince and his spouse, the newly weds
The king was ready to become dead
Without having to feel any dread
7th – 8th Grade Winner:
“Autumn’s Paradise” by Davi Souza
I hoped you’d be my last
But you changed very fast.
I remember you sharing everything with me.
It felt like heaven being in your presence.
Love was like those walks in the park
Muffled steps as crunchy leaves snap
Leaves curled in shades of brown and gold
Wrapped around us like comforting blankets
Love was like wading through the mud
After clouds had wept down on us.
But now the leaves are fading to gray,
And I carry a shattered soul.
When these seasons changed
So did you, and nothing felt the same
Such things are never certain
In autumn’s paradise.
